The Perfect Campaign (パーフェクトキャンペーン?, Pāfekuto Kyanpēn), also known as the Perfect challenge (パーフェクトキャンペーン?, Pāfekuto Kyanpēn)[1], is a special feature in all games in the Rhythm Heaven Series.
Description[]
If the player plays really well in a Rhythm Game, they receive the Superb rank, and the game is eligible for a Perfect Campaign afterwards[2]. When a campaign starts, the player is notified which game is currently being hosted, and what they will receive for clearing it. If the player has a Superb on all Rhythm Games, Perfect Campaigns appear back to back until all of them are cleared.
In Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Fever, the player must navigate to the game in the Game Select to start a campaign. The game's icon has text saying "Go for a Perfect!" around it.
In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Perfect Campaign opens after any second game in Lush Woods. The player must go to Challenge Land where the campaign is being hosted at the Perfect Campaign Headquarters. The Challenge button on the bottom screen shows a P icon to indicate a campaign is going on[3].
Go For a Perfect![]
When the player begins a campaign, an icon appears at the top of the screen with text beside it saying, "Go For a Perfect!". Every time the player's timing is successful, the icon animates to indicate this. If the player ever misses, the campaign ends. The player gets three tries on each campaign, and if they lose it, they'll have to wait for the campaign to start again[4][5][6]. The icon is different in each game.
Game | Icon | Ace! | Miss... |
---|---|---|---|
Rhythm Tengoku | A heart with the letter P in the middle surrounded by 4 jewels. | The heart emits a white shine. | The heart turns more red and a big crack appears with the jewels shattering and the letter disappears, then the heart splits in half. |
Rhythm Heaven | A pink letter P with eyes that shift back and forth. | The letter glows and jumps slightly. | A big cross appears in front of the letter. |
Rhythm Heaven Fever | A pink letter P with eyes. | The letter glows and jumps slightly. | The text disappears and the letter gets crossed out. |
Rhythm Heaven Megamix | A golden letter P with eyes. The icon and the text appears and disappears along with the beat. | Nothing happens. | The letter shakes violently along with the text and a fail screen appears with sliding doors appears slamming together and powers down, saying "You missed..." |
In Rhythm Tengoku, Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Fever, missing while going for a Perfect ends the Perfect run, but the game itself continues as normal. The campaign stays for only three plays, regardless if they were on the game where the campaign is being hosted. This means the player can lose the chance for a Perfect without ever attempting it.
In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, missing while going for a Perfect ends the Perfect run, and the game stops. The player gets three tries on each campaign.
If the player manages to finish a Rhythm Game without missing once during the Perfect Campaign, they receive a Perfect rank, and a gift. The next time they visit the Café, Barista praises them for their achievement.
Gift[]
A Gift (プレゼント?, Present) is received for getting a Perfect on a Rhythm Game[7].
In Rhythm Tengoku, the gifts received are letters, songs and drums. They can be accessed trough the Rhythm Shiryo Shitsu and the Studio on the Menu. Obtaining all 48 Perfects unlocks the rest of the songs in the Studio.
In Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Fever, the gifts received are songs, and letters. They can be accessed at the Café. Obtaining all 50 Perfects unlocks the rest of the songs and letters, and, in the latter game, Endless Remix.
In Rhythm Heaven Megamix, each Perfect gives the player a Flow Ball, which can be used at the Shop. Obtaining all 104 Perfects is commemorated with a Badge.
Trivia[]
- In Rhythm Tengoku, all unnecessary inputs during a Perfect Campaign are penalized, and end the Perfect run. This is not the case in later games, though some Rhythm Games count unnecessary inputs as a miss in general.
- The Perfect Campaign does not appear in the arcade version of Rhythm Tengoku. Instead, Perfects are a regularly obtainable rank. If the player plays perfectly, halfway through the game the "Go for a Perfect!" icon appears on the bottom of the screen.
- In Rhythm Heaven, slightly mistiming an input in Shoot-'Em-Up, Frog Hop and Lockstep (and their appearances in Remixes and arrange versions), while still regarded as a miss, does not end the Perfect Campaign. This exception is not present in any other game.
- Perfect Campaigns can only start on Rhythm Games in the main section of the Game Select. Other games such as Airboarder in Rhythm Heaven, Night Walk in Rhythm Heaven Fever, Endless Games, Extra Games, etc. do not give Medals, and cannot be hosted on a Perfect Campaign.
- However, they can be played in a Perfect Campaign setting in Remix 10 and Final Remix. The Extra Games are also remakes of existing games from Rhythm Tengoku, where they can be hosted on the Perfect Campaign. They, along with Airboarder, also return as regular Rhythm Games in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, where they can be hosted on the Perfect Campaign once again.
- The Barista loves the thrill of going for a Perfect[8]. He also tenses up while playing them[9].
